Curriculum for Conversational Spanish

<!--StartFragment-->

 ¡ Hola!  I am glad to be back at CT English as your Spanish teacher.  This class will continue the curriculum from 6th grade, and introduce many of the concepts taught in Spanish 1.  There will be an emphasis on oral communication (speaking and understanding), but some writing will be added this year.  The curriculum will be enlivened through singing, dancing, movement, crafts, cooking, and projects.  We will be exploring the culture of Mexico, and celebrating its traditions and holidays.

Materials:  You will need to bring to class a binder with three sections dedicated to Spanish.  The sections should be labeled trabajo (class work), tarea (homework), and trabajo de vuelta (returned work).  You will also need an 8-½ x11 inch spiral-bound notebook (you may use the same one form last year).  You will also need binder paper, a pen, a pencil, colored pencils, and a highlighter.  Your Spanish book will stay at home, for study and homework.  Feel free to cuddle it at night.

Grading:  We are using a new grading program, and I am still learning to us it.  Please let me know if you see anything that doesn’t make sense.

Oral Assessments (dialogs, partner interviews, listening comprehensions, etc.) are 20% of your final grade.

Written Assessments (quizzes and exams) are also 20%.

Participation in class is 20%.

Homework is 10%

Spiral-bound notebook (including notes), and class work are 20%.

Projects (mostly done in class) are 10%.

Curriculum:  We will be using Ven Conmigo as our textbook.  We will quickly review the first two chapters, and continue through chapter 4.  We will also study thematic, seasonal lessons, and add conversational elements.  We will emphasize Mexico and its Pre-Colombian history, and holidays.

Un cordial saludo,

Señora Grant-Richards
