Curriculum for Spanish 1

Curriculum for Spanish 1

<!--StartFragment-->

 ¡ Hola!  I am glad to be back at CT English as your Spanish teacher.  This class will continue the curriculum from Conversational Spanish, but pick up the pace, and emphasize more writing and grammar.  We will be mirroring the Spanish 1 course at Los Gatos High School, to best prepare you to go on to Spanish 2.  In order to participate fully in this class, you will need to do your homework on Mondays through Fridays, and maintain an A or B in this course.  There will not always be time to fully master a concept during the class period alone.  You will get to take responsibility for some of your own learning.  What a great preparation for High School!

Materials:  You will need to bring to class a binder with three sections dedicated to Spanish.  The sections should be labeled notas (notes), tarea (homework), and trabajo de vuelta (returned work).  You will be keeping a portfolio of your writing progress in class.  You will also need binder paper, a pen, a pencil, colored pencils, and a highlighter.  Your Spanish book will stay at home, for study and homework.  Feel free to cuddle it at night.

Grading:  We are using a new grading program, and I am still learning to us it.  Please let me know if you see anything that doesn’t make sense.

Written Assessments (quizzes, exams, and finals) will count for 30% of the final grade.

Oral Assessments (dialogs, partner interviews, listening comprehensions, etc.) are 20%.

Participation in class is 10%.

Homework is 10%.

Binder (including class notes) is 10%.

Portfolio (with written paragraphs) is 10%.

Projects (mostly done in class) are 10%.

Curriculum:  We will be using Ven Conmigo as our textbook.  We will enrich the curriculum through singing, dancing, movement, crafts, cooking, and projects.  We will celebrate Hispanic holidays, especially the holidays of Mexico.  We will learn about Spanish-speaking countries.  I am looking for web-pals for our class.  Do you know anyone in a Spanish-speaking country that could help us find a school or class with whom we could correspond on-line?

Un cordial saludo,

Señora Grant-Richards
